We have just cruised on Arcadia, and you can smoke in your cabin and on your balcony as well as designated areas on the ship.

I've been on Arcadia twice. The last time the carconogenic dependents were rolling up either side of our balcony. The smell was unbelievable. I don't care anything about them. What they do, or who they are, is of absolutely no interest to me - except when their stink affects my enjoyment of the open air. This experience was provided for my wife and I at the expense of a mini suite. God help the rest of the suckers (excuse the pun). Mike, Rutland.

Smoking is bad for you, makes you ill, smell and is a sad way to go on, so best not to smoke anywhere really...

Cockburn - Answered a Question by turpin (30 Aug 08 10:05)

Hi, just to repeat what Buckley has said previously but be aware that what Royal Caribbean state on brochure does NOT apply to Independence of the Seas which has only 1 bar(disco) and cigar lounge(quiet) inside where you can have a drink and smoke. Outside a few deck areas. No smoking in staterooms but on balcony if you have one. It spoiled an otherwise wonderful cruise, especially when the weather was was stormy. When questioned RC have said Independence was different because it was catering for a mostly British market! Personally we'll be going Princess next year as you can still smoke in cabins (so far anyway) Having read most of the rude comments of the anti-smokers on this website I'd say its best to make absolutely sure before you book anything. You've already had such from Rennie of Hornchurch, they just cant help themselves. Hope this helps. Happy cruising.

Rennie - Answered a Question by turpin (31 Aug 08 10:51)

Good morning Cockburn, Troon. I know it was a silly coment, and again, you are right, I can't help myself. As an ex-smoker of 20 years and given up for 20 years, I think I might be entitled to a comment or two? Smoking onboard ships, we have been on 6 cruises and it is a pain. I detest smoke and hate going onto my balcony and having to contend with flying ash and clouds of smoke billowing at me. Personally, I think there ought to be only smoker's ships where they can all stink the place out and set the ship alight if they so wish. Fire is the one of the most hazardous dangers on ships, as you may be aware. If people really want to harm themselves, no problem, I understand that, but please stay away from any cruises I am on, as I gave that up years ago when I came to my senses.

I was just wondering...what did you do before smoking was banned in public places in UK? Were you a recluse? Did you not go out to a pub? Did you not go on cruises before when smoking was allowed everywhere? Just curious as to how you coped in those days?
