Find Your Cruise
Yes, just like when boarding a plane all luggage goes through the x-ray. it helps them find people who are trying to smuggle booze on board!
Not it only is it scanned sniffer dogs are also used and if anything is thought to be suspicious it is placed in a secure area of the ship and you will be told to open the luggage for a manual search,if you refuse all your luggage and you are taken of the ship you then wave by by to the ship from the police station window.
Thinking of sneaking something on board?
Be wary if you have a false bottom in your suitcase - it looks pretty silly if you try wearing it with swimming trunks and is likely to frighten elderly ladies!
If your intention is to bung a bottle of brandy or decent malt in your suitcase and "smuggle" it aboard then I don't think you will have any trouble. I ALWAYS equip myself this way and have never encountered any problems.
My one question is why are you asking this?
We are new to this, and people keep telling us different things, like we cant lock our cases ,others say we can ,if they scan them i was going to lock them to put them on board.
Now... it's funny that you mentioned locking your cases, cos last year on RCI (in Miami) we had 3 cases and somebody had told us about padlocking cases, so we padlocked just one case (this was on our way home) and guess what? the padlocked case was broken open and a note was left inside by security to say why they had broken in. Joke was, it was the case with all our dirty laundry in. Not kidding!
It's maybe an American 'thing' .. we've had a few locks broken off and a nice little note from'Homeland Security' too!!
Well I hope they scan them, would hate to think of the opportunities people would have to get up to mischief, we always padlock our cases and have never had one "busted open" but then we never have anything in them that we shouldnt
