Sure, get some dollars before you go and some Dollar TCs as there is no charge for turning them into cash on board. Best places to get dollars in the UK, we think, is Marks and Sparks and then the Post Office. Get a Nationwide credit card and use that for all credit card deals as the rate they give you is very good.
I' m not sure what the others refer to as " tipping scam". On American ships you pay less for the cruise and then you are expected to tip as you feel appropriate with a indication given as to the normal amount to give. The staff who service your cabin and table are paid a pittance or nothing and their main income is their tips. If you feel that they have not given you all you should have had then say so but please do not withhold tips without real reasons. I am saying this as sincerely as I can and do not wish to cause offence but it is really important to the gals and guys on board. ...Falan Down
Better off buying $ before you go as the travel agent are all doing commission free these days. They do tend to take a lump for themselves on board, and charge for everything. Make sure you opt-out of the tipping scam they have going when you get on board, otherwise you'll be paying $10 a day per person in your party.
Totally agree with previous answer, change your money before you go, also be aware there is no cash on board (you cannot get cash from the pursers desk)
And yes, opt out of the tipping scam.
Yes change your money into dollars before you get on board M&S rate much better than any on the ships. Also opt out of the fixed tipping - tip what you want for the service you receive - you may well find that you want to reward some people more than others. The reason for the high amount of fixed tips on the America ships is quite simply that the Americans pay FAR FAR less than the Brits for their cruises and the salaries of the staff on the American ships is made up from their tips.P & O's receommended tips are half of Princess and Celebrit.
