Find Your Cruise
Hi, Came off Sea Princess yesterday and if you declare booz they will store it for you, I just put mine through the scanner and picked it up at the other end, then off to my cabin with it.
Same on Marco Polo a few months ago, the Americans were declaring it at a seperate desk, I just put mine through the scanner and away.
Is it legal to take personal things off you? I'm not sure.
We were on the Sea Princess in the Caribbean at Easter and took a box of wine and bottle of spirits in each case with no problem. On returning from shore visits they were taking obvious drinks packages that people were carrying (to return at the end of the cruise) but we bought duty free on a couple of occasions and got them on board inside the rucksack we carried - even though it must have been obvious on the X ray. We've found this to be so on several Princess ships.
I suggest you take a BOX of wine on board with you. You can carry this in your hand luggage with you, and you will not have a problem getting it on board.
Best wishes C.T.
My wife travelled with Princess 2 years ago. I am afraid they appeared to have a fairly tight policy on taking alcohol on board. If detected any unauthorised bottles were removed and returned at the end of the cruise.
Taking your own alcohol on board, if it was uncontrolled on a ship with 2000 guests, would undoubtedly result in a major reduction in the profits.
We have cruised with P&O, on Oceana and, last year, Aurora, to the Caribbean. My wife and I both like a glass of wine and of course, purchase this in the restaurant in the evening - but if you want a glass in the day, throughout a 22 night cruise, it will get very expensive.
We boarded in Southampton with 6/7 boxes of wine in our luggage together with champagne etc - there has never been a problem and we always had our wine in the room fridge - the steward always made sure we had ice as well, etc. I agree with all that you say and from experience we can say that we have never found a problem. Pack it in your luggage and say nothing - it's not their business what you yake on board as long as there is no security issue.
