All companies are different, with the added problem now of different airports allowing 1 or 2 cabin bags. some 'dedicated' cruise flights may be the best, but check with the airline on their website. BA have not only cut in half the baggage allowance recently, (unless passing through a USA airport), but have reduced the weight each bag is allowed to be, to 23kgs. Also American Airlines we have found seem to be generous, again 2 bags pp of 23 kgs each, a total of 92kgs, way more than you will need, maybe.
The new allowances have just come into place and it is 22/23kgs per case but and check with your travel agent but you can now put 2 cases in the aircraft hold without charge [British Airways] so long as the do not exceed the weight allowance. We have just bought 3 lightweight cases [4kgs]for going off on our cruise shortly. Someone I spoke last week said BA charged then £35 for having a case overweight but they were told this applies to any weight over whether 5kgs or 10kgs .
We are going on our first cruise and flying with BA and were astonished to read that we were allowed 2 bags pp of 23 kg each, far too much to deal with on transit. Was going to check with our travel agent to see if their had been a mistake, appears not it seems! Then you have your hand luggage allowance as well.
The baggage allowance is the airline baggage allowance - there are no exceptions just because you are going on a cruise and need to pack your DJ and lots of pairs of shoes.....check the airline website for the latest info.
BA to Eurpoe is 1 bag at 23kg per person, BA to the USA is 2 bags at 23kg per person....so it varies greatly by airline and destination.
I think it depends on whether it's a scheduled or charter flight and the allowance imposed by the relevant airline. I'm travelling shortly on a fly/cruise with Fred Olsen on Balmoral and have been advised that the baggage allowance is 25kg hold baggage and 5kg hand baggage per person.
P&O dedicated charter flights is 25Kg plus 5kg hand baggage
