I agree with a lot of what "Jennings" says but would add that the seaplane flight from Ketchikan was outstanding for us but the weather was very good as they get 13 feet of rain a year in that area. Skagway we didn't do the train ride up to the White Pass but took a local bus tour from the town up there instead and although it did not have the same atmosphere as riding on a train was interesting and a lot cheaper. In Juneau we had a wonderful whale watching trip and it was September and it rained but apparently saw more whales than any other trip that year, and close up, and from Victoria the boat trip out to see the Orcas was stupendous with I think 86 killer whales passing right by the boat, I have to tell you though that their breath stinks. September.... a great time to go ... Neil.
Hi, we went to Alaska in september last year with celebrity, but when it comes to excursions most lines are the same - it depends what you want to do - can I suggest Ketchikan is nice to just get your land legs back, its OK to just walk around the town and spend some time in the shops and on creek street, where if you are lucky you will see salmon and seals there - Juneau is a whale & mendenhall glacier tour must do, the ship organised ones are good or you can book your own on line. Skagway has the greatest choice, helicopter ride and glacier walking is once in a life time thing, there is also the white pass train ride or horse-riding. Local shopping is best in Juneau and skagway, all ports are right next to the town so you should be able to do an excursion and then a bit of shopping. We did not go to Victoria so cannot help you there. Weatherwise expect rain but we also had some very hot sunny days to. Hope you have a great cruise .
