Went in November last year. Stopped overnight at the Meridian Luxor overnight. Fantastic trip. This trip depends on how many people book it. If not enough people interested they dont do it.
I went on this cruise over the New Year 08. The cost for the overnighter was £135 each. It may have been worth it, we were exhausted from the day trip.
I also read the comment about dangerous driving - we saw none of that on our trip - the coaches were in convoy and all looked out for each other there and back.
You might do better to do luxor as a seperate holiday there is so much to see you need at least a week and all travel is by convoy with armed guard at specific timesand its a long transfe.
Did this cruise last month, and the overnight Luxor was still being offered. I think it was about £125 per adult, don't know the child fare.
We took this cruise last month and it was fabulous. We stayed at the Sheraton on the banks of the Nile for the overnight trip which cost £125 per adult. I am sorry but I don't know a childrens price. We tried, and failed, to book excursions before we boarded which was stressful as we had booked the cruise particularly for the destinations and we would have been very disappointed if they had had limited availability. In the event apparently 800+ of us went to Petra for the day and 900+ on the various trips to Luxor. There were two coaches on the overnight trip. We didn't have a problem with our driver, nor did we hear of any from the day trips, but it's worth bearing in mind that the day trips last 15/16 hours.
I was particularly interested in your report on the Thomson Red Sea Magic cruise as we are extremely worried about not being able to book the trips to Petra and Luxor before boarding. As you say, the whole reason for going on the cruise is to see those two places! Did you have any problems with booking them in fact. Most grateful for any tips you can give.
I felt the same as you, but in the event it wasn't a problem at all. We were one of the last to board the ship as our flight didn't arrive until early evening into Sharm and I was sure all the places would have been booked. We didn't even go to our cabin when we boarded - we just went straight to the excursions desk! As I said though it wasn't a problem, and I am sure it won't be for you either. I can't imagine they would actually turn people away. We had a wonderful time and would go again at the drop of a hat. Have a great time.
RE your second question, On our drive back from Luxor our driver fell asleep at the wheel. We were heading off the road when I shouted and woke not only the driver and guide the rest of the coach. We were at the front of the coach so I could see what was happening. So the answer is do go on the trip it;s not to be missed, but sit nere the front of the coach and stay awake.
Nice ship and good cruise - we went three weeks ago. they had an overnight to Luxor, but the tours are hard going with kids.
Went on this cruise last month, very tirering tours far too long, better to take the short trips and go to luxor seoperatly. Found the ship very sociable but too much viberation all over the ship. Not like other cruises that we have been on.
