Thanks for your answer I was in 2 minds about phoning again but if you used yours I have more peace of mind they did say it was fine on Independence as long as your debit card is visa but I still was worrying thanks again.

Yeh going on ITS I rang again spoke to a very helpful chap he said on ITS you can use a visa debit card 100% he said he knew what it said in T&Cs but that was with them being american cruise line and americans dont usually use visa debit but he said I would be definetley be able to use mine and he had sailed on ITS in May and used his and I had to relax hope this helps I sail in a week or so so will let you know how I get on.

They are mislead. Yes, occasionally, the staff on board see the 'visa' logo and they do not realise there is a difference between a visa maestro, and a proper visa credit card, and yes, if they are able to process the card because you are in port (see earlier comment about the need for bank connection), then you may get away with it. However, officially the answer is still 'no'.

I would phone again because RCI T's & C's clearly state Credit card or Cash, the same as every other major cruise line. I can't believe they have a different payment policy just for Independence. You could have a problem at check in if you don't get a definite answer on Debit cards. Personally I would ask them to put it in writing if you get the same answer.

No, it clearly says in the T&Cs that it is cash US$ or credit cards only. Debit cards need a live connection to a bank and that is a bit difficult from the middle of the ocean. Who ever you spoke to was wrong.
